They may be a little fuzzy but these shots, from our spies at Carparazzi, are the first glimpse we've seen of the new Nissan Micra. Although the company has released sketches of the forthcoming city car, these photos show the car testing in the real world.
We have already learned that the new car will sit on the Nissan-Renault global architecture known as V-platform. The same platform will underpin the replacement for the Tiida and Renault Clio.
New reports indicate the same platform will also sit underneath a new MPV and compact sedan which is also in the works from the Franco-Japanese alliance.
Weight saving has been crucial to the new car with Nissan cutting as many parts as possible out of the production model. For example, our sources claim the dashboard is now made of only 28 parts instead of the previous 56.
Power is expected to come from a variety of small capacity engines, most of which will be turbocharged, ranging from 900cc to 1.5-litres. A new CVT gearbox is also in the works for the new small Nissan range.
Nissan Australia has already confirmed that, unlike the current single model range, the new Micra will be available in both three and five-door variants and with a manual transmission as well as the CVT.
The new Micra is set to launch internationally in March next year with an Australian on sale date in the second half of 2010.
