The all-new 2023 Lexus RX has been teased yet again ahead of its imminent global debut at 10:00am AEST tomorrow (June 1).
A new image of the fifth-generation large luxury SUV’s front-end design confirms a seriously sporty and more aggressive design direction for the Japanese premium brand’s latest BMW X5 fighter.
Expected to be based on a modular new GA platform (TNGA in Toyota parlance), the next-gen Lexus RX’s new front-end design is best-described as ultra-sporty, with the brand’s angular ‘L finesse’ design language given a big booster shot of machismo.
The 2023 Lexus RX will also boast a fancy new rear-end design, as previewed in a new video showing large multi-faceted LED tail-lights joined by full-width LED light bar.
The video also suggests the tailgate will be heavily raked, which could produce a sporty and almost coupe-like side profile to match up with its sporty front-end design.
Lexus is calling the next RX a “pioneering SUV”, which means we expect some innovative features on the new model, least of which could be an upgraded petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, potentially with a larger battery and, for the first time, plug-in functionality for improved EV cruising range like the smaller new Lexus NX 450h+ PHEV – Lexus Australia’s first plug-in model.
Whatever eventuates, you can all but guarantee the new Lexus RX will deliver improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions than before, along with a completely redesigned cabin with improved technology including touch-screen functionality, and probably a few luxury surprises designed to one-up German and Korean rivals like the Audi Q7 and Genesis GV80.
Following the introduction of its new-generation extra-large and mid-size SUVs – the Lexus LX and Lexus NX – in recent months, the Japanese luxury brand will soon have a completely renewed SUV range, with only the compact Lexus UX left still riding an an old-generation platform.
The Lexus RX is the brand’s second best selling model in Australia, behind the NX mid-size SUV.
