Mercedes-Benz has announced that a limited run of E-Class variants based on the E280 will come off the interchange bench Monday of next week. Named the E280 Sports edition, the new models are available in sedan and Estate (wagon), petrol and diesel models.
Straight out of the blocks, the E280 Sports Edition is equipped with at least $11,000 worth of extra value for no extra charge, according to the importer.
Even with the additional Luxury Car Tax handicap, the new models straddle the $100,000 mark, with the petrol sedan sliding in at $98,000 and the diesel sedan hitting the $100,000 bullseye. The Estate models are aiming a little higher; $104,000 for the petrol engine and $106,000 for the diesel.
Performance-enhancing features include lowered sports suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, transmission-shift paddles, dual chrome exhausts, sports pedals and MB-branded disc brake calipers.
Raising the bar further, the E280 Sports also features a revised front apron, double-stitched sports seating, an electric glass sunroof, metallic paint and the Comand APS system with MP3 playback facility and satellite navigation.
"The E-Class is the executive sedan and wagon of choice in its market segment and with the E280 Sports Edition we have taken the opportunity to put together a package for our customers that offers outstanding value by incorporating the most popular options for a substantial saving in excess of $11,000," says Horst von Sanden, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific.
Sports Edition models will available at MB dealers from July 7 until August 31, or until all stocks are sold.
