SPY PICS: 2013 Audi R8
New looks, new gearboxes and a power boost big enough to lift the front inside wheel off the tarmac for Audi's updated R8 supercarWhat we see here is the 2013 Audi R8, a facelifted version of Audi's supercar undergoing testing at the Nurburgring race circuit in Germany.
Snapped by Carparazzi, the test car is wearing very little camouflage and that's because there are only a handful of subtle changes to the car's exterior.
Likely to make its official debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in late September, the new Audi A8's front fascia has been tweaked and the headlight design is also new, featuring full LED illumination which should provide the car with a technical aesthetic.
The back end of the Audi R8 gets new brake lights with updated LED patterning but it's unclear what changes will take place in the cabin, and whether any new technologies will be shown.
The Audi R8's exterior won't be radically different, and same goes for the V8 and V10 engines, which are likely to be massaged to squeeze out another dozen or so kilowatts over the current 386kW and 316kW respectively.
Carparazzi predicts that the sequential gearboxes will replaced with DSG units for the new Audi R8 models, and convertible Spyder versions of the updated R8 are likely to appear at the Geneva motor show in 2013.
And for anyone that needed convincing of the Audi R8's performance potential, just take a close look at the first photo for evidence. The front left tyre is off the ground, suggesting the lightly camouflaged test car was absolutely powering through the corner at the Nurburgring.
