Captured circulating on GM’s Milford proving grounds in Michigan, USA, this heavily-swaddled coupe is said to be the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.
The top-gun Camaro is expected to follow tradition by being a stripped-down, track-ready racer with little regard for comfort or luxury and using a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V6 punching out even more power than the 480kW ZL1 model.
The most recent photographs follow a sighting displayed on a Camaro enthusiast’s website in late 2015 of what was presumed to be a Z/28 doing laps on the Nurburgring in Germany.
The next-gen Z/28 will be considerably more powerful than the previous model that produced a mere 377kW from its 7.0-litre V8. The fact that the new Z/28 will be significantly lighter than its predecessor should help too.
The Z/28 version of the sixth-generation Camaro should arrive in US showrooms some time during 2017 and could be a prospect for Australia if GM puts together a case justifying right hand drive production of a car that could challenge Ford’s recently-introduced Mustang. At present, the company so far has said only that it is “studying” the prospect.
