SPY PICS: 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross spotted almost undisguised

Updated German compact SUV looks like it will go big on its SUV credentials with a bolder aesthetic

The facelifted 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross has been spotted in prototype form by our spy photographers traversing one of VW’s favourite alpine test routes in Austria almost completely undisguised.

On full display for the world to see is a redesigned front-end design headlined by a new grille, tweaked fog lights and an all-new bumper sporting a significantly bigger intake surrounded by contrasting silver trim that imitates a nudge bar.

The new front fascia treatment is joined at the rear by refreshed tail-light graphics and a full-width black and red trim strip – obscured here by similarly coloured tape – linking the two clusters.

VW’s current trend of instilling its new models with full-width lighting signatures suggests its littlest SUV is in line for the same treatment at either or both ends depending on the variant.

The new look is rounded out by an updated rear bumper design featuring a similarly extended silver trim insert to the front unit and a set of fake rear fog lights – probably masking subtle changes to the real ones earmarked for production.

No changes are expected to be made to any T-Cross powertrains, which in Australia includes only a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine developing 85kW/200Nm, however, some updates to the light SUV’s cabin materials and potentially its infotainment system are on the cards.

Going by the inherent lack of heavy-duty camouflage we’d wager the new VW T-Cross will make its world debut later this year and arrive Down Under sometime in 2024 – four years after the pint-size SUV was released in Europe (2019) and Australia (2020).
