SPY PICS: 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 N spotted for the first time

N performance division’s incoming electric sedan spied alongside IONIQ 5 N near Hyundai’s Nurburgring testing facility

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 N has been spotted testing in prototype form for the first time in Germany as the South Korean brand looks to up the ante over the already ludicrous Hyundai IONIQ 5 N.

Our European spy photographers spotted this understated engineering development car near Hyundai’s Nurburgring testing facility with an IONIQ 5 N in tow, with the car-maker doing little to hide the telltale signs this is the next electrified N car.

The majority of the body is finished in flat grey paint while the black front and rear aprons have been lifted off a regular IONIQ 6, so we don’t even get a hint as to what the most capable N car will look like beyond its streamlined silhouette.

Look a little closer, however, and you’ll notice the rear deck features an extension on the upper spoiler, with similar alterations made to the wheel-arches.

It’s then the widened tracks make themselves apparent – likely 50mm wider as per the IONIQ 5 N – along with the high-performance braking package advertised by the signature red callipers and enlarged rotors.

Other N hallmarks include Pirelli P Zero tyres, subtly redesigned side skirts and a marginally lower ride height.

The prototype hasn’t been fitted with the sporty N Light bucket seats just yet, which reaffirms the fact this is an early test mule as opposed to an advanced pre-production car, though sightings of the latter might not be too far away, according to N chief technical advisor Albert Biermann.

The former N boss told carsales earlier this year he’d already driven the next battery-electric N car and that it could be with us sooner than expected, offering even more power and performance than the IONIQ 5 N.

“Because now we’ve set a very strong reference point with IONIQ 5 N, whatever we do next as an EV in Hyundai N, of course will be compared to IONIQ 5 N,” Biermann said via video link at the national IONIQ 5 N media launch.

“But just being the same isn’t enough – you have to be better, even if it’s just one or two years later. You have to add more.”

In an ideal world, the finished IONIQ 6 N will look something like the bewitching Hyundai RN22e rolling lab, albeit without the huge widebody kit, vented bonnet and enormous rear wing.
