SPY PICS: 2025 IM5 spotted in Sydney

Another of MG’s luxurious IM products spotted, this time at the shops, ahead of local launch

Mere days after MG announced it would be launching its IM Motors luxury brand Down Under, an eagle-eyed carsales reader has stumbled across a cloaked L6 evaluation vehicle at Strathfield Plaza in Sydney.

The blacked-out sedan was left unattended in broad daylight while the engineers presumably got a feed or last-minute groceries at the shopping complex – the need for secrecy and discreteness null and void now both the IM Motors brand and the L6 have been confirmed for Australia.

For anyone who missed our initial coverage, IM Motors will arrive in MG dealerships later this year offering both the L6 sedan and LS6 SUV – set to be known as the IM5 and IM6 respectively – under the ‘IM Presented by MG Motor’ banner.

The 2025 IM5 is underpinned by a 900V battery-electric architecture and offered (in China) with a 123.7kWh semi-solid-state battery that provides a CLTC range of up to 1002km.

Its ultra-fast charging capabilities can supposedly add up to 400km of range in just 12 minutes.

Rear-drive versions produce between 216kW and 300kW while the flagship dual-motor set-up outputs 579kW/800Nm and can dispatch 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds.

The IM6 SUV meantime will seemingly be more accessible with a 400V architecture on the base (71kWh) and mid-spec (90kWh) variants, leaving the halo to brandish the 900V set-up, a 100kWh battery pack and the formidable dual-motor powertrain detailed above.

Powering the lesser grades will be the choice of three single-motor arrangements: 231kW/450Nm, 250kW/450Nm and 379kW/500Nm.

It’s been suggested prices will start from about $70,000 and stretch up to $95,000 for the IM5 while the IM6 is set to cost between $75,000 to $90,000.

This latest Sydney IM5 sighting comes more than two months after a mildly disguised IM6 was spotted in Melbourne by carsales staff in similar circumstances.
