A leaked Volkswagen Group document has revealed the battery-electric Audi Q5 e-tron SUV will hit global markets in 2022 – a year after the Audi Q4 e-tron, fresh spy shots of which also emerged this week.
The document, published by the Romanian website automarket, reveals little more than the existence of the new model and its launch timing.
It will roll out the same year as the new-generation Porsche Macan EV, which has already been previewed and, like the Q5, will be sold alongside conventional versions of the German sports car manufacturer’s most affordable SUV.
The electric Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan are also likely to share the VW Group’s new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture that is intended for larger and higher-riding vehicles than the VW Group’s ubiquitous MEB platform supports, including the VW ID.3 and ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq iv etc.
In fact, the Skoda Enyaq got a mention in the document as a 2021 arrival, alongside the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback, VW ID Crozz and SEAT el-Born.
Alongside the Q5 e-tron and Macan EV in 2022, Volkswagen will launch the electric new-age Kombi based on the ID Buzz people-mover concept, the document revealed.
Ahead of the Q5 e-tron, Audi is scheduled to launch an updated Q5 wagon and, for the first time, a new coupe-like Q5 Sportback body style.
The wagon is due here in quarter one 2021 and the Sportback in the second half of the year.
The Audi SQ5 TDI relaunches in Australia next week and then gets a facelift in the second quarter of 2021, when the petrol TFSI version will be discontinued.
Audi has only just launched its first EV model in Australia, the e-tron wagon and e-tron Sportback.
