Here is exactly what the 2012 Audi S6 will look like, in all its undisguised glory as captured in the USA recently by Carparazzi spy photographers. The only thing missing from the photo car is the S6 badge.
From its dramatic front end, complete with open-mouth grille and LED headlights, to the 19-inch wheels (that look as if they are from the A6 S line package), ultra-serious brake rotors and be-spoilered, quad-exhaust rear end, the A6 flagship looks to be essentially a fait accompli.
As befits a premium sports sedan, the S6 is quite restrained, with visual changes limited to reprofiled front spoiler and air intakes, discreet side skirts and the aforementioned quad exhaust and boot spoiler.
The through-the-window pic is a giveaway too: The S6 logo is clearly evident on the 8000rpm tacho, while carbon fibre inserts run across the entire width of the dash. The seats suggest there will be increased side bolstering as well.
Powering the new S6 will be Audi’s new turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, complete with cylinder deactivation, ready to pump out about 340kW. It will drive all four wheels through Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The new engine is said to be in line to power the new entry level Bentley Continental, as well as forthcoming Audi S7 and S8 models.
Presumably the S6, like regular A6 models, will weigh in a bit lighter than its predecessor to make best use of the power – in terms of acceleration, fuel economy and CO2 emissions.
The S6 is expected to be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September for a 2012 launch.
What a great start for an RS version!
