SPY PICS: BMW heads 'em off at the PAS
The 5 Series GT will go into production, as these pics showYou've seen the concept, now here's the pre-production version of BMW's 5 Series GT. The master spy photographers at Carparazzi snapped this production-ready model on test in Munich just a week ahead of the concept's official unveiling. All the details from the design study's unveiling were revealed by the Carsales Network here /news/2009/medium-passenger/bmw/bmw-pas-launched-as-5-gt-13353 and these pics verify that there will indeed be a production version, as if there were any doubt!
Almost a people mover but destined to be no more than a five-seater, the 5 Series GT is BMW's take on how a vehicle designed to offer exceptional cabin space should be. What it ends up being is a sort of cross between a new 7 Series and an X6.
With a stretched wheelbase, hatchback rear end and an elevated roof it maximises interior utility and space, yet is given some sort of form by the sweeping, X6-style, fastback roof. In fact it sits, according to ex BMW design chief Chris Bangle, somewhere between the X5 and 5 Series. So while it may look like an X6, it's actually the exact opposite in its packaging philosophy.
