SPY PICS: BMW M4 Coupe goes 'big mouth'

Controversial new German sports coupe caught winter testing in Sweden

Spy photographers have caught the brand-new BMW M4 Coupe in action, ahead of its planned 2021 arrival.

Due to be unveiled later this year and in showrooms next year – around the same time as the new BMW M3 sedan – the 2021 M4 Coupe and Convertible is set to get “the most powerful engine in the segment”, according to BMW M boss Markus Flasch.

What will power BMW’s next M3 and M4 has already been confirmed – the same S58 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six engine as seen in the new BMW X3 and X4 M Competition.

Those models produce 375kW of power and 600Nm of torque, but the next M3 and M4 should be available with a manual transmission, in addition to an all-wheel drive automatic powertrain.

These images show some of the new BMW M4’s other widely known ‘secret’ – the move to a controversial ‘big mouth’ grille for all new 4 Series models, as seen on the BMW Concept 4 at the Frankfurt show last September.

The same concept car will also donate its wider and lower body, with (slightly) more pumped out guards and bigger wheels than its predecessor.
