Work on an M4 GTS is well advanced, as these Automedia spy pics reveal.
Camouflage on the large rear wing and front apron clearly marked this car as something special – beyond the status of a safety car for MotoGP. And that aroused the suspicions of the spy photographers camped out at BMW's Test Centre near the Nurburgring.
The M4 GTS will be a track-oriented limited volume model harking back to its predecessor, the M3 GTS built during the days of the E90 series. Little is known about the new car, other than the aerodynamic aids are not there for their good looks alone. It's those that got the Automedia spy snappers thinking – and reaching the conclusion this car is a follow-up to the original, which also sported Recaro seats, a bolt-in roll cage, a huge rear wing and modified front airdam. But the M3 GTS also did away with rear seats, which this car hasn't, according to the photographers. Frankly, it's hard to make out from the pics whether the rear seating is present. The roll cage can be seen, which leads us to think rear seats are only there to throw the bloodhounds off the scent. So we would surmise the production models won't have any seating in the rear.
Word around the traps is that the M4 GTS engine will be bored out for more power than the standard engine. If it's anything like the M3 GTS, it should be unapologetically loud.
