With the third-generation BMW X3 imminent, it’s timely we see these first images of the new Alpina XD3, already under development, out and about doing shakedown tests on public roads in Germany.
Expected to go on sale in Euro markets during 2018, the next-gen X3 Alpina is rumoured to gain a power boost for its bi-turbo diesel engine, lifting output above the present model’s 257kW.
Some sources are suggesting the XD3 could pick up the blistering 285kW/800Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel from the current BMW Alpina B5.

If this proves to be the case, it will make for a very, very quick BMW X3.
Visually, there seems to be little differentiating the Alpina from other X3 models, apart from changes in the front spoiler area, plus a bit of extra badgework.
The interior is expected to get the usual Alpina dressing-up with upgraded-quality trim and more exquisite detailing.
No news on whether the X3 Alpina will make it to Australia, but we do know the 3 Series-based B3 S and B4 S BiTurbo Alpinas – sedans, coupes and wagons – will reach our market in the first quarter of 2018.
