BMW has released official 'spy pics' photos of the new Z4 sports car at the company's test centre, the Autodrome de Miramas in France. The new generation Z4 – to be labelled with the development number G29 – shares its architecture with the next Toyota Supra.
According to the company, the vehicle pictured here is currently being tested for driving dynamics. BMW hasn't specifically revealed what powertrain is installed in the test vehicle, but hints it could be the inline six-cylinder engine of the Z4 M40i.
That variant comes with lower suspension, electronically-controlled dampers, alloy wheels (wider at the rear), an M sports braking system and an electronically-lockable rear differential.
"The vehicle concept of the new BMW Z4 is geared consistently towards agility and driving dynamics," explains Jos van As, Head of Application Suspension.
"The high level of body stiffness and the very rigid suspension attachment provide the perfect basis for a set-up that guarantees the performance qualities of a genuine sports car in terms of steering precision as well as longitudinal and transverse acceleration."
BMW's centre at Miramas replicates the sort of driving conditions and environments that have been long associated with the Nordschleife (northern loop) of the Nurburgring. The company has tested cars at Miramas for over 30 years and the facility comprises a high-speed oval track, a mock motorway section and other tracks (slalom, serpentine and circular layouts) for testing each vehicle's agility.
