SPY PICS: Dacia Logan 4x4: best of breed?

Romanian cross-over with Renault mechanicals on a Nissan platform

People with long memories will recall Dacia as the Romanian concern that built the Renault 12 under licence, long after the small car had been consigned to history everywhere else.

But times change. Dacia is now owned by Renault and the company is the brains behind the Logan brand, which is a marque established to build and market less expensive designs in developing markets. To date, Logan plants can be found in Romania and Brazil, with the possibility of more plants being constructed in Iran, Morocco and Russia, to name a few.

The car pictured here is a cross-over SUV, based on the first generation Nissan X-TRAIL platform and powered by Renault. Grainy as these shots are (the vehicle was filmed in Eastern Europe by our nostalgic spy photographers at Carparazzi -- presumably from Western Europe), the car's styling cues and general shape are clearly discernible.

Sufficiently discernible in fact, for Carparazzi to come up with an artist's impression of the production version (blue car).

Carparazzi reckons that the Logan 4x4 will be launched in Europe late in 2010, at a starting price around 11,000 Euros.
