SPY PICS: Facelifted Polestar 2 gets fresh make-up

New grille and alloy wheel designs look to be in store for near-new electric fastback

Our spy photographers have snapped a blacked-out Polestar 2 prototype undergoing open-road testing in the Austrian alps with a suspiciously camouflaged grille, suggesting to us a mild facelift is on the way for the all-electric fastback crossover.

While the camo covers the bulk of the grille, we can see at the very bottom that the texture of the filling has changed from a blocky square pattern to what seems to be a thin vertical bar arrangement, however, the bars stop short of the camo.

Without an X-ray vision function on his camera, our spy shooter got in for a closer look to see the normally chromed grille surround had also been blacked out, but that doesn’t mean there’ll be much of a change there.

The only other bits of camouflage on the car were on the obviously aerodynamically optimised alloys wheels, suggesting the new grille will be matched by some similarly revamped hoop designs.

Given the photographed car is rolling on admittedly fat Michelin Primacy tyres, it’s highly unlikely we’re looking at a new range-topping Tesla Plaid-poaching performance flagship from the Swedish/Chinese EV brand – the limited-run Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 already holds the title as the most aggressive 2.

Sources in Europe tell us the facelifted Polestar 2 will most likely launch in April next year as a 2024 model and will complement the recent wave of mechanical updates made to the Scandinavian-conceived, Chinese-made four-door.

Local Polestar 2 dual-motor variants were treated to an over-the-air power boost in May, while greener material sourcing and some smaller trim and equipment upgrades were detailed in the weeks prior.
