SPY PICS: Faraday Future spied in California
Tech start up's new electric crossover to take on TeslaFaraday Future's new electric autonomous crossover has been spotted testing in southern California in a secret test facility south of Los Angeles.
Little is known about the crossover; however this is the first time the vehicle has been spotted in its actual body shape, the company having previously used the body of a Lincoln MKZ sedan as a test mule.
The appearance of the crossover, when revealed, may share some of the design language seen on other electric vehicles in the market. There is a very good reason for this, as Faraday Future's Head of Design is Richard Kim, who is responsible for designing the BMW i3 and BMW i8 as well as the i8 spyder concept. Based on these pics, the Faraday appears very much a 'monobox' design, with shallow-raked A pillars and a cab-forward look – with plenty of overhang too – lending the car the proportions more commonly seen in people movers rather than SUVs.
The crossover will focus heavily on autonomous technology and will be aimed squarely at taking the competition to Tesla's new Model X crossover.
There is no official word as to when the Faraday Future will be released, however a design concept will be revealed in 2017 and there are rumours the vehicle could be ready for customer delivery towards the end of 2018, possibly 2019.
