The 2022 Ferrari Purosangue is drawing closer to production as a fresh batch of spy photographs from our European shooters provide more tantalising details of the Italian supercar marque’s controversial first SUV.
The development mule is still cloaked in heavy camouflage in these latest photos, and borrows the same heavily modified bodywork from the Maserati Levante.
It’s also notably lower than we’ve seen in previous spy shots – of which there are plenty – making the Aston Martin DBX and Bentley Bentayga rival look sportier than ever.
At the same time, com-gen artist Giorgi Tedoradze has put the pieces together to bring us a useful insight into how the 2022 Ferrari Purosangue is taking shape.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen computer-generated renders of the high-performance crossover, but Tedoradze’s are the best we’ve seen to date.
Already confirmed for Australia, the Purosangue will measure up at more than 5m long and feature a new height-adjustable suspension.
It will likely be powered by a V8 or a development of the 6.5-litre V12 in the Ferrari 812 Superfast.
As for performance figures, the Purosangue is expected to cover the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.0 seconds, going on to a top speed of 340km/h, which could make it the fastest series-production SUV of all time.
And although it’s currently using bits from Maserati’s parts bin, the Purosangue will be unique, sitting on its own platform with the engine placed behind the front axle to improve weight balance.
We also know that the Purosangue could offer electrification in the form of an all-new V6 twin-turbo plug-in hybrid – the same unit found in the SF90 supercar.
Ferrari is set to officially unveil the Purosangue in 2022, but first Australian deliveries may not take place until 2023.
