SPY PICS: Ferrari's Aventador slayer

The prancing stallion is leading a new charge against the rampant bull — and someone's bound to get trampled

A full-blooded successor to the recently departed 599 GTB Fiorano is set to enter the ring next year, if the rumours and these spy pics are any guide.

The new car, tagged F152 by the master spy photographers at Carparazzi, was all rugged up for cold weather testing. According to the photographers the new Fezza is scheduled to make its global debut at the Geneva motor show in March of next year, with retail sales to follow later.

Word is that the 599 replacement will be more of everything Ferrari; a new chassis with some shared design from the FF and the California, even wider use of aluminium to keep weight down and a 6.3-litre V12 expected to whip up over 700hp.

US magazine Car & Driver recently interviewed Ferrari CEO, Amedeo Felisa, who explained at the time that the new Ferrari's output will exceed 700hp, but it's not in answer to the Lamborghini Aventador, which already develops that power figure from its 6.5-litre V12. In a rare display of cynicism, the blokes at Carparazzi surmise that the horsepower figure for the new Ferrari is clearly the latest example of brinksmanship between the two supercar brands.

As the Carparazzi fellows also understand it, the new Ferrari will not be offered as a hybrid; the engine will simply run in a conventional drivetrain layout to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
