A pre-production version of Fiat’s 2015 Ducato van has been caught on camera in Europe, the revised LCV sporting a number of fresh styling cues and details.
Snapped recently by Automedia’s spy photographers, the facelift appears to include a refreshed front fascia with new headlights and an updated grille, bonnet and bumper, while the treatment continues at the rear with new taillights.
Introduced in 2006, this third-generation of the Ducato – also sold in various markets as the Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Jumper – is overdue for some attention, but the extent of the update, and if it goes beyond the purely cosmetic, is yet to be revealed.
The next-gen Ducato will further bolster Fiat’s LCV range here in Australia, which is set to benefit from a raft of new and updated models. Currently limited to the Ducato and Scudo vans, Fiat’s renewed focus on LCVs in Australia will see the new Doblo arrive in October 2014, giving the Italian marque a direct competitor for Volkswagen’s Caddy. The two-seater Doblo will enter the sub-2.5-tonne market here in both short- and medium-wheelbase formats with a choice of diesel or petrol engines and manual or automatic transmissions. Australia will also see a short-wheelbase, automatic Ducato arrive in October 2014, slotting in between the manual-only Scudo and the current entry-level Ducato, while a new 12-seater Ducato minibus will arrive in April 2014.
Fiat’s concerted LCV push comes at a time of heightened activity in the segment, with Ford revitalising its Transit range and new Master and Trafic models from Europe’s top-selling LCV marque, Renault. – with Automedia
