The latest spy pics of the reborn Ford Bronco SUV reveal more details of the short-wheelbase two-door model's appearance and performance.
Caught here blasting through the snow in the USA, the 4x4's overall design will ensure a retro visual tone that has proved successful for models like the Suzuki Jimny and Jeep Wrangler.
The Bronco's upright pillars and circular headlights with LED rings – which can be glimpsed through the camouflage cladding – unite with short front and rear overhangs, pumped wheel-arches and big, chunky off-road footwear to a deliver tough, nuggety design.
Extra camo packed around the roof suggests the Bronco will almost certainly feature a removable roof option. The doors will come off too, offering the same lifestyle functionality as the Jeep Wrangler.
Although the upcoming Bronco has been ruled out for Australia at this stage, because Ford believes it will undermine the popularity of the Ranger ute and Everest SUV, there is an Aussie connection.
Like those models, the new Bronco is based on Ford's T6 ladder frame chassis, which was designed, engineered and developed in Australia.
Using a chopped version of the Ranger/Everest platform, the two-door Bronco will be tailor-made for taking the path less travelled, with loads of ground clearance and an advanced all-wheel drive system clearly working in its favour.
Engine types are expected to be lifted from the US Ranger line-up, meaning Ford’s 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine is likely to be hooked up to a 10-speed automatic, while the brand's 2.7-litre petrol V6 and hybrid options are on the table too.
And how about a fire-breathing V8-powered Bronco Raptor model? It's already been mooted and given there's an Aussie-developed Ford Ranger Raptor V8 in the works, bigger development budgets available for the Bronco in the USA could lead to a hero model down the track.
The new Bronco will be released in the US this year.
