A new version of the Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo has been spotted undergoing testing in Germany, likely to be a mid-life facelift for the quirky sports car.
The camouflaged Veloster’s bonnet and front fascia have been masked to hide changes to the headlights and grille, expected to bring the car in line with newer family members like the Hyundai Sonata and Genesis sedan – both winging their way to Australia this year.
There’s a lot of camo gear on the Veloster’s rump, likely hiding changes to the brake light and bumper/diffuser design.
New look wheels are also in evidence, and the coverings in the car’s cabin point to interior changes too.
The naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol-powered 103kW Veloster was first launched in Australia in early 2012, but the vehicle captured in these spy photos, distinguished by the larger circular twin exhaust system, is the more powerful Turbo SR model, which lobbed in August of that year.
It’s not known when the new model is due for release, nor if Hyundai has any plans to tweak the engine.
The Veloster Turbo SR sold in Australia is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and generates 150kW/265Nm, while the more affordable naturally-aspirated model is worth 103kW/166Nm but gets a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
