SPY PICS: Jaguar working on hot XE SVR
The all-stops-out Jaguar XE SV Project 8 might be small numbers and exclusively left-hand drive, but prepare for a higher-volume, slightly less outrageous alternativeJaguar’s stratospheric 441kW/700Nm XE SV Project 8 made a big impression when revealed last month but mass disappointment greeted the news that only 300 examples would be made. And they’re all left-hand drive.
News which must have been especially galling in Jaguar’s right-hand drive British domestic market.
However, these spy photos recently snapped in Germany offer some hope as the distinctly hot Jaguar suggests a slightly watered-down version of the SV Project 8 could be destined for global showrooms.
The spy photos show a couple of disguise-clad Jaguars lurking on suburban streets while conducting on-road testing.
Also a product of Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations, the tamer version of the Project 8 (some say it will be dubbed XE SVR) manages to still look menacing with its big wheels, low rider height and what looks like an interpretation of the humongous air ducts which define the be-spoilered, pumped-up limited-edition monster.
Word is the more mainstream version will run a de-powered version of Jaguar’s supercharged 5.0-litre V8 producing around 380kW – not surprisingly just edging the 375kW Mercedes-AMG C 63.
Naturally, the XE SVR will get a reworked chassis with upgraded brakes and bigger wheel and tyres, and you can expect the eight-speed automatic transmission will be sharpened up to give faster, more positive shifts.
Launch date? Our mail is the SVR will make its appearance next year, expanding the XE range and provide sucour for those who miss out on the Project 8.
