SPY PICS: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk spotted

Hellcat-engined SUV will boast 707 horses for a 3.5-second 0-100km/h time

Jeep's Grand Cherokee is in for a mega-muscle performance boost when the Trackhawk variant is launched globally in July of next year.

Aimed at pegging back top-end prestige SUVs like the BMW X5 M, Range Rover Sport SVR and Mercedes-Benz GLE 6 AMG, the Trackhawk model is clearly headed for production, based on these shots taken in Northern Michigan.

When we first reported the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk – back in August last year – it wasn't certain that the high-performance luxury SUV would reach production. If the timing for global launch is right (July 2017) there's a chance we'll see it reach Australia before the end of next year. That of course presumes it will be offered to FCA Australia and will be developed in RHD form.

Another potential hurdle to overcome before we see the range-topping Trackhawk variant here is the demand for the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that will power it. But if that issue can be sorted, the punters here will be lined up outside each dealer in the country to get their hands on one.
