SPY PICS: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk undisguised

Ever-vigilant snappers catch Jeep's brutal Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in all its road-ready glory

Following the recently-published, lightly-disguised photographs of Jeep's upcoming monster SUV, the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, we're now able to see the real thing in undisguised – albeit dirty – form.

Powered by the 527kW/959Nm 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat V8, the heavy-hitting Jeep is no off-road warrior: It delivers acceleration to 100km/h from zero in a staggering 3.5 seconds and is equipped with the essentials to ensure the rest of the vehicle is up to scratch. Oversize wheels and brakes will be standard fare, and it's reasonable to expect the suspension will be modified to suit.

The Hellcat V8 is seen in high-performance SRT Charger and Challenger models from Dodge. Based on the regular 6.4-litre SRT V8, the Hellcat powerplant features a slightly shorter stroke, which apparently ups the strength of the crankshaft.

Although the Trackhawk Grand Cherokee is expected to go on sale in the US towards the end of this year, or early in 2017, there is no word yet as to whether it will be signed off for Australia. We've got our fingers crossed...
