The mini SUV pictured in these photos supplied by the spy photographers at Automedia is the Jeep Junior, a new model set to slot into the range below the Patriot and Compass siblings.
In Australia – assuming it comes here – the Jeep Junior will sell against rivals like the Holden Trax, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke.
Like its platform-sharing Fiat equivalent, the 500X, the new Jeep is aimed at a rapidly growing sector of the SUV market based on light passenger car underpinnings. Both the diminutive Jeep and the 500X are based on the Fiat 500L architecture and will be built at Fiat's Melfi plant in Italy, according to Automedia. The spy photographers anticipate either or both may debut at Geneva in March. As we reported previously, the Jeep is looking like a stronger prospect for Australia than the 500X, but given Fiat's determination to build sales volume in Australia, don't count it out just yet.
