The driver and co-driver of a special Koenigsegg Agera R have been hospitalised after a serious crash at the Nurburgring.
The prototype vehicle, believed to be a limited edition of the Agera R, slammed into the Armco barriers, resulting in heavy vehicle damage.
Details of how the crash took place are still sketchy but the photos show the Koenigsegg has been properly broken, with several panels and doors bent out of shape and the tyres peeled of the wheel rims.
The two occupants of the Koenigsegg were stretchered away from the crash and rushed to hospital via ambulance, after the incident occurred at a sharp corner on the Nurburgring road circuit called Tiergarten.
The Automedia spy photographers who captured the aftermath of the vehicle accident said the prototype Koenigsegg left the tarmac but couldn't say why.
There has been talk that the brakes failed or that the driver simply braked too late and wasn't able to keep the car on its intended trajectory.
The condition of the hospitalised driver and co-driver are still not known.
In late 2011 the Agera R proved its speed credentials by setting a new Guinness World Record for the 0-300km/h acceleration time, at 14.5 seconds.
Koenigsegg is a Swedish supercar brand that has made its reputation on creating extreme vehicles capable of reaching speeds of more than 400km/h, epitomised in the mad 1045kW One:1 hypercar.
Sister website carsales.com.au currently has a 2008 Koenigsegg CCX for sale, which is pegged at $1.3million dollars.
