SPY PICS: Lamborghini Cabrera to replace Gallardo
Aluminium-bodied Lambo to pump out 600hp and migrate to seven-speed dual-clutch boxLamborghini has missed the window presented by the Frankfurt motor show for the unveiling of its Gallardo successor, the Cabrera.
But clearly work on the new super coupe is continuing, as these Automedia spy pics show. The car pictured was caught while testing at the Nurburgring race track. According to the spy photographers, the Cabrera will be powered by an upgraded V10 currently found in the Gallardo, displacing 5.2 litres. Output is expected to be in the region of 600hp (just under 450kW), channelled via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to all four wheels, or possibly just the rear wheels in select variants.
As is the case with the Gallardo, the Cabrera's platform will lend itself to underpinning the Audi R8 in that car's next generation. Body panels for the Cabrera will be aluminium, with carbon fibre standing in at some critical areas of the car's construction. Automedia speculate too that Lamborghini may choose fibreglass also, combining with the other two materials in a structure that's close to as robust as a full carbon unit, but at a fraction of the price.
