SPY PICS: Lexus GS F eyes M5

First Lexus rival for M5 and E 63 confirmed as GS F with quad exhausts emerges
Last month we showed you first images of a camouflaged Lexus RC F (which has since been filmed in testing on road and track in Germany) alongside which was what appeared to be a GS with similar quad exhaust outlets.
Now the covert snappers from Automedia have captured the same vehicle in full from the rear at a secret test location in Germany, proving Lexus is not only working on an F version of its upcoming RC coupe, which is based on the new IS sedan and was previewed by the LF-CC coupe concept at the 2012 Paris motor show, but an F-badged GS larger sedan to rival BMW’s M5, the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG and Audi’s new RS 6.
Although it’s still unclear if the RC F will employ a more powerful version of the 311kW/505Nm 5.0-litre V8 that powers the outgoing IS F sports sedan – a successor for which is yet to be confirmed – the Japanese luxury brand’s first GS F is almost certain to pack the wildest V8 ever seen from Lexus.
For starters, both the BMW M3-rivalling RC F coupe and the ‘GS F’ feature the same two diagonally stacked pairs of outboard exhaust outlets, and a box of Yamaha components was spotted alongside them, suggesting one or both cars may feature upgrades developed with the help of the Japanese motorcycle giant.
But while the RC F coupe and perhaps IS F sedan are likely to continue with V8 power to combat BMW’s next-generation M3, which is expected to revert to (turbocharged) six-cylinder power, the GS F will need to compete with the upcoming 430kW/800Nm E 63 AMG and 423kW/680Nm 2014 M5.
Providing the perfect solution is the 478kW/710Nm twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 that powers the Lexus LS-based TS Sports 650 concept revealed by Cologne-based Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) at the Essen motor show last December.
In the chopped and lightened – but still 2070kg – TS 650 super-limo, the biturbo V8 offered 0-100km/h acceleration in just 4.2 seconds and a 320km/h top speed, suggesting it will be more than enough to match the M5, E 63 and RS 6 in the lighter GS – if Lexus has the will.
