New spy photos snapped in Europe confirm two new Lexus sports cars are in the works, the IS F Coupe and GS F sedan.
It was only a matter of time before Lexus developed a two-door IS coupe to rival the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5 Coupe and these photos are evidence that the vehicle is not far from release.
The new model is rumoured to initiate a new badge - the Lexus RC - and confirms the Japanese luxury car maker's first mainstream coupe since the original SC.
The shots also show a sneak peak of the interior, which looks to be exactly the same as the recently launched IS 250 F Sport.
Completely covered in camo, the Lexus IS Coupe development car exposes a few high performance clues, such as the staggered quad exhaust pipes, pumped wheel guards, aggressively style 'F Sport' front fascia and central bonnet vent. It is almost certainly the full-biscuit IS F (or RC F) Coupe.
It's unclear what engine lurks underneath the bulging bonnet, but if it needs extra venting it's probably potent. Lexus has previously stated the IS F's 5.0-litre V8 is unlikely to continue due to tightening emissions restrictions, so a forced-induction V6 or heavily modified naturally aspirated six-cylinder mill is more likely.
In one of the photos there's also a sneak peak of a Lexus GS sporting similarly stacked quad exhausts, which suggests the GS F is being tested and potentially uses the same engine as the IS F Coupe.
That there's a Yamaha parts and accessories box in the shot is another clue that Lexus is well along the track developing a beefier engine for its sports models. Yamaha has previously worked with Lexus in designing the LF-A's 4.8-litre V10 engine. The motorcycle maker conceived the high-revving LF-A's cylinder heads among other things.
As such, it wouldn't be fantasy to imagine Lexus employing a similar strategy with the GS F and IS F Coupe by creating a high-revving naturally-aspirated engine instead of going down the supercharged path, hinted at via the blown GS 350 F Sport at SEMA in 2012.
It's not clear where or when Lexus will launch the IS F Coupe or GS F, but with the Tokyo motor show looming in November we could be given an official preview.
