The 6 Series has made its debut in Paris, but BMW is holding back the car that will top the range, the M6. Spied testing near the Nurburgring by the master spy photographers at Carparazzi, the M6 was running 20-inch wheels, but the production version may offer larger wheels as an option.
When it arrives in German showrooms -- around the third or fourth quarter next year, according to Carparazzi -- the M6 will be powered by the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 also fitted to 'M' versions of the X5 and X6. The spy snappers reckon the engine in the M6 could be developing as much as 570 or 580hp (around 430kW of power). That sort of grunt puts it ahead of Audi's 5.2-litre V10-engined R8.
As the picture of the 6 Series on the stand in Paris shows, the new coupe is a marked improvement on the current car's styling, but the M6 looks likely to adopt more aggressive visual details, with a deeper airdam and distinct slots for braking cooling.
