SPY PICS: Made-over Range Rover

A mid-cycle facelift is due about 12 months from now, ahead of an all-new model in 2013

The Range Rover is the giant sea turtle of SUVs. It's large and ponderous for the most part, but lithe and agile in its element. Most importantly for this tenuous analogy, a typical life cycle lasts about a hundred years.

So a new Range Rover is news to be savoured. However, the Range Rovers snapped here by Carparazzi -- automotive spy photographers inspired by Sir David Attenborough -- are merely facelifted models due to go on sale in the northern hemisphere autumn next year. That's about 12 months away, our time.

Pictured at the Nurburgring, this facelifted vehicle looks like it's trying to hurl itself back into its natural environment -- peat bogs and rock-strewn goat tracks.

Carparazzi forecasts that an altogether new Range Rover will arrive in international markets around 2013. In the meantime, this facelifted model will introduce new frontal styling (headlights and grille) and tail lights.
