As Renault revealed its new Megane III to the world at the 2008 Paris motor show, the nimble and ever-alert snappers at Carparazzi captured these shots of what it reckons is the in-development RenaultSport three-door coupe version in action on Germany’s Nurburgring.
Clues to the hot Megane's identity come from the gaping single central exhaust and, according to Carparazzi, the appearance of Brembo brake callipers behind the five-spoke wheels.
The lack of any further bodily additions indicates little, except that Renault may be trying to ward off speculation. You can bet the production version will wear the odd aero enhancement, as well as larger wheels and tyres, and a sports-oriented interior.
As yet there is no clue to the RenaultSport's engine identity, although it has been suggested it will be a further powered-up version of the current turbo two-litre that already punches out a healthy 165kW.
The new Megane loses the controversial ear-end of the current model and is longer and more spacious, yet Renault says it is lighter, by around 8kg.
The Megane III's unveiling at the Paris motor show revealed five-door hatch and three-door versions, with another four variants still to come. Australia is not saying when we will get the new Megane, except that it will more likely be 2010 than 2009.
