Fresh spy shots of the CLA Shooting Brake have emerged, providing not only the best look yet at the all-new small Mercedes-Benz wagon, but proof it will receive the AMG treatment. But the best close-up shots you see here show the fifth member of the MFA platform family – following the A-, B-, CLA- and GLA-Class – will essentially be a miniature version of the larger CLS Shooting Brake, boasting additional rear headroom and more cargo space compared to the four-door CLA coupe.
While it's not necessarily a Shooting Brake version of the piping-hot A, CLA or GLA 45 AMGs, the five-door CLA pictured here does wear a range of AMG tweaks, including wheels and more aggressive bumpers and other bodywork.
So while standard models – like others in the MFA family – will be front-wheel drive, it remains unclear whether there will be an all-wheel drive CLA 45 AMG Shooting Brake.
Mainstream engine choices will reflect that of the CLA sedan, which means the petrol-powered range will begin with a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and top out with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol in the CLA 250, while Benz will also offer a range of power outputs from its 2.1-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder.
And although it's a smaller sibling for the C-Class Estate, the CLA Shooting Brake will be longer than the CLA sedan, which itself is longer and offers 11 litres more luggage space than the previous (W204) C-Class sedan, so expect the CLA's 470-litre cargo capacity to leap to around 600 litres in the smallest Benz wagon.
The CLA Shooting Brake is likely to make its world debut at the Geneva motor show next March, before being rolled out globally later next year.
