A road-going version of the Mercedes-AMG GT4 has been caught undergoing tests in Germany, ahead of its expected launch next year.
We first reported that Mercedes-AMG chief Tobias Moers had plans for other variants of the AMG GT over 12 months ago, but there was no specific mention at the time that the renowned tuner would build a road-ready variant as well as the track car.
Spotted by spy photographers just a few klicks away from the Nurburgring, the GT was adorned with the rear wing and front panels of the GT R, but there was a tell-tale that this was the GT4 - its two exhausts, exiting outboard individually, rather than together below the registration plate.
Other changes from the GT R's exterior are anticipated to include a Perspex rear window, a larger rear wing and more aggressive front apron. The move to the lighter material for the rear window is indicative of AMG's weight-saving strategy for the GT4 road car. Combined with the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the GT-R, the GT4 is expected to be very quick indeed.
This car should not be confused with the GT-based sedan that's also being labelled in some quarters as GT4.
