First previewed at last year’s Munich motor show, the Maybach EQS SUV is effectively an opulent, battery-powered version of the biggest and priciest Benz SUV, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, as well as the higher-riding sister model to the EQS electric limousine.
The most luxurious version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, which rides on the same dedicated-electric EVA platform as the smaller EQE sedan and SUV, is said to offer around 600km of driving range from a full charge and will come with almost every luxurious automotive feature imaginable.
Identified here by its camouflaged but unique front and rear bumpers, the new Daimler flagship is rolling on a set of bespoke seven-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in what will likely be specially developed Goodyear rubber, designed for maximum grip and comfort above all else.
Very little is known about the super-luxury high-rider other than the fact it will be all-wheel drive, immensely powerful and dripping with kit.
The powertrain will almost certainly be the same one as found in the Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4MATIC SUV, comprising two electric motors and a 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery, yielding outputs of 265kW/800Nm and the previously mentioned circa-600km range.
A modified version of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53’s gruntier powertrain is also a possibility.
Mercedes said previously it was “completely redefining the luxury SUV of the future” with the concept vehicle and if previous Maybach products are anything to go by, that could well be the case for the production version which our sources tell us will be launched for the 2023 model year.
Prospective customers can expect to see all the goodies associated with the mainstream EQS SUV range – including the all-digital ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’ dash – and then some, while the exterior will be made even more elegant with an extra element of grandeur about it.
The concept vehicle gave us a quick look at what things might look like, but it’s hard to tell exactly which features have been carried across to reality given the thickness of the test car’s camouflage, which is conveniently focused around the front-end.
