Our spy photographers have spotted what’s thought to be the next-generation 2025 Hyundai Palisade testing in Sweden ahead of the flagship SUV’s global reveal next year.
Covered from nose to tail and roof to wheel in camouflage, the engineering prototype you see here is bigger than the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe and hides a different headlight arrangement under its protective veil.
The presence of an exhaust outlet – among other things – also rules it out as the Hyundai IONIQ 7.
Clearly inspired by its smaller sibling, the new Palisade will be much blockier than the current model, with the sharper-edged styling extending to the body and lighting signatures at the very least.
The low and wide-set position of the headlights instil the prototype with a whiff of Kia Telluride when viewed from the front, though we doubt that’ll be the case when the big Hyundai is unmasked.
Word is the new Palisade will be underpinned by a new platform and come with the choice of a 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain and a turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 derived from the current Genesis mill.
Whether the hybrid will be turbocharged remains to be seen, but it’s clear Hyundai is done with diesel, having already dropped it from Tucson and Santa Fe.
A 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol-electric powertrain would endow the Palisade with a mountain of low-end torque – perfect for heartbroken diesel fans – while providing a handy performance jump over the Tucson and Santa Fe’s 1.6-litre turbo hybrid system (up to 172kW/376Nm).
Hyundai N chief technical adviser Albert Biermann has previously confirmed a hybrid system could feature in the second-generation i30 N sedan, which would be developed to suit a broad range of applications.
Reports out of Korea speculate the new Palisade will debut early next year, which points to an Aussie launch around the third quarter.
