SPY PICS: New Megane revealed in cold snap
Spy shots reveal Renault is well advanced with its next generation Golf challengerRenault expects to launch the Megane III in Europe next year, so development is well under way -- as these recent pictures of a five-door test mule shot by spy photographers Carparazzi in the Scandinavian winter clearly indicate.
Clumsy disguise apparel aside, the next generation Megane's sheet metal appears to be close to sign-off, with elements such as the headlights, taillights and even badging doing a fair imitation of a wet T-shirt competition.
The Megane III stems from the just-released-locally Nissan Dualis and is expected to span a huge range of variants, from three and five-door hatchbacks to sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon and, most likely, crossover SUV.
The versatile new Megane will be aimed at doing battle with Peugeot's new 308 range as well as Fiat's Bravo and VW's next generation Golf VI.
Thoughts are that the new Megane will utilise some of the styling themes seen in the gullwing-doored Altica "sporty estate" concept from 2006, admittedly with somewhat less drama. The overall footprint should be about the same though.
What seems certain is that the unique and polarising rear end treatment of the current Megane hatch will be quietly retired.
