When it arrives next year, Mercedes-AMG's next E 63 super-sedan will bring wholesale change, from its platform and interior to its engine and transmission.
Based on the new W213 E-Class sedan due here late this year, the all-new twin-turbo V8 bruiser will also look a bit different, as these fresh spy shots from Germany show.
Providing the best look yet of how the new E 63 is shaping up, the images show the AMG version rides closer to the ground than regular E-Class models and signature AMG quad trapezoidal tailpipes are evident at the rear.
But it’s the front-end with its enlarged and aerodynamically designed air intakes that give it presence – and potentially better thermal dynamics.
Power will come from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 found in Stuttgart’s GT coupe and C 63, only this time it’ll pump out more than 375kW… A lot more!
The previous (W212) AMG E 63 roasted its rear-tyres easily thanks to its 5.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V8, generating a whopping 430kW and 800Nm in S form. But the new model pictured will smash out around 450kW and 850Nm.
Combine those extreme numbers with a brand-new nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT transmission and a specially-developed all-wheel drive system and you’re looking at a big luxury cruiser that’ll rip to 100km/h in about 3.5 seconds.
Granted, the vehicle is expected to top $250,000 but that price will ensure the new AMG E 63 outpaces both the BMW M5 and Audi RS 6.
And yes, AWD versions of the E-Class will be offered in right-hand drive for the first time, so Aussie buyers will have access to this ludicrously fast luxo-barge.
The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 sedan is expected to break cover in Europe early next year. It should arrive in this country by mid-2017, followed by the new E 63 Estate.
