First images of Mercedes-Benz's vital new-generation W213 E-Class sedan emerged in September and now we can bring you an even better look with these fresh spy shots and the first video of it in action.
Due on sale globally in 2016 following its world debut in late 2015, the all-new large sedan and wagon range will grow in size to distance itself from the bigger new C-Class, as evidenced by this heavily disguised pre-production prototype undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden.
Its exterior design will also borrow styling cues from the larger S-Class but, underneath, the new E-Class rides on a stretched version of the C-Class's latest rear- and all-wheel drive MRA platform.
Once again, the sedan will be followed by estate and long-wheelbase sedan, body styles, as well as coupe and convertible models from the same platform for the first time. It will also form the basis of the next-generation CLS 'coupe', which will again be offered in five-door Shooting Brake form.
All these models will be powered by Mercedes' first straight-six petrol engine since 1998. Of course there'll also be four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, and the range-topping new E 63 AMG powered by the new AMG GT's twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8.
But the bigger, more spacious new E-Class will also be available with petrol- and diesel-electric plug-in hybrid powertrains offering up to 50km of emissions-free running.
