There’s a new 2025 Audi Q3 in development that will take the popular small SUV into a third generation and is set to herald the last hurrah for the German brand’s internal combustion engines before they’re overrun by EVs early next decade.
The new Q3’s powertrains and underpinnings remain the subject of speculation, but these fresh spy photographs out of Europe point to a radical new design for the wagon version that is shown here in what looks to be production body panels.
The camouflage can’t hide the wider stance, lower roofline and some key design details such as a split headlight arrangement with high-mounted daytime running lights and lower main lamp cluster in a sunken format that was brought to prominence by the likes of the original Hyundai Kona and Citroen C4 Cactus.
They flank a wider single-frame grille, while at the rear-end the redesigned L-shape tail-lights are also mounted lower down the tailgate in conjunction with the more rakish roofline.
The swoopier shape should help produce a lower drag coefficient, extending the driving range of plug-in hybrid and e-tron EV versions.
Chances are the new Q3 will be underpinned by a shortened version of the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB Evo architecture which has been fundamentally overhauled to improve road manners and provide better accommodation for electric hardware.
High-performance Audi Sport models are sure to be in development, but it remains to be seen whether an RS Q3 returns with the current 294kW/480Nm five-cylinder turbo.
