Happy snappers at Automedia have captured images of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate that is expected to make its appearance on the international stage next year.
Replete with current Benz styling signatures, the classy mid-size wagon caught testing in Germany appears to replicate the upcoming, longer but lighter, fourth generation C-Class sedan to the B-Pillar, then stretches the roofline in a more horizontal plane to provide wagon storage capacity at the back – although it could well feature a semi-tapered window line south of the C-Pillar. The rear overhang appears to be much the same as for the four-door C-Class. Although the test mule C-Class estate’s tailgate and rear sections are heavily clad, it’s possible to imagine the tail light lenses featuring something of the trapezoidal shape that will be seen on the sedan. The trapezoidal dual exhaust outlets look familiar too.
The C-Class estate’s powertrain will likely replicate much of the current line-up, including diesel and petrol four-cylinders, diesel and petrol V6s and, possibly, a 1.6-litre diesel from Renault. Who knows, a C63 AMG version could also happen, while 4MATIC all-wheel drive is likely to find its way onto European versions at least.
Sedan versions of the new C-Class will go on sale in Australia towards the end of 2014.
