Aside from some nondescript covers over the lower air vents on the front bumper and the absence of the lion badge on the back, the sporting Pug appears to be almost production ready.
Motoring.com.au has previously reported the launch of the range topping 308R at this year’s Frankfurt motor show and speculates that the new GTi will feature a detuned version of the 308R’s blown 1.6 litre four, with six speed manual and front drive configuration in addition to up-rated suspension and brakes. There is no official word on power or performance figures, however expect similar numbers to the feisty opposition, around 160kW and 350Nm of torque.
Visually, the hot hatch is very conservative, apart from the aggressive arch-filling five spoke wheels. The overall proportions and high roofline suggest an emphasis on practicality.
The new 308 range is scheduled to arrive on Australian shores in 2014.
