SPY PICS: Porsche Panamera facelift
Updated Panamera prototypes snapped in Scandinavia show a revised front end and tail lightsPorsche’s Panamera has now been around almost four years, so it’s mid-life facelift time for the large Mercedes CLS/BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe/Audi A7 rival.
As evident from the accompanying Carparazzi spy pics, the tweaked Panamera gains a new front bumper/spoiler assembly with air intakes that aren’t all that dissimilar to those found on the new Cayman.
The headlight clusters have also been reprofiled to look more like the units that adorn the face of the 991 Series 911.
At the rear there’s a new bumper with integrated reflectors, and higher up sit the new all-LED light clusters with a signature horseshoe-shaped element.
While the cosmetic changes are hardly earth-shattering, the big news is the possibility that the 4.8-litre V8 engine that propels the Panamera S may be ditched in favour of a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with around 313kW (compared with 294kW for the existing atmo V8 model). Accompanying the power hike will be a hefty boost in mid-range torque.
The new Panamera line-up is otherwise expected to mirror the current range, with the model selection including a diesel, hybrid and range-topping Turbo S with over 410kW on tap.
It’s possible the refreshed Panamera will be unveiled at the upcoming New York or Shanghai motor shows, although some sources suggest it may not appear until September’s Frankfurt show.
The facelift is expected to soldier on until late 2015, when an all-new replacement is tipped to debut, underpinned by a new MSB platform that’s likely to result in weight savings of around 90kg.
It’s believed the next-gen model will be offered in the existing fastback-sedan format, as well as a ‘Shooting Brake’ variant previewed at last September’s Paris motor show by the Sport Turismo concept.
