Development images prove rumours of sporty Porsche shooting brakePorsche appears to be aiming at firming up its non-SUV family appeal with a wagon version of the next-generation Panamera sedan, as these spy shots demonstrate.
Back in 2012 the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo concept hinted at this future, with rumours gathering momentum in more recent times as Porsche’s head of research and development, Wolfgang Hatz, made his affection for the concept known to the public.
Hatz is on-record as saying, “What we have designed is an entirely new Panamera with a new platform.
”We have prepared it for a lot of derivatives, personally I like very much the Sport Turismo, I love this car. But there is a good chance for more derivatives.”
Second-generation derivatives are thought to include the four-door saloon and wagon (usually referred to as a shooting brake or estate in Europe) bodies, with two-door coupe and cabriolet derivatives also believed to be under consideration.
The ‘wagon’ would go head to head with vehicles such as the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake as it aims to attract non-SUV family buyers.
An array of powertrain options are predicted, as for the current Panamera. Traditional petrol and diesel offerings should be augmented by plug-in hybrid options, all with improved performance and efficiency targets.
We expect the next-gen Panamera to arrive in Europe later in 2016, with the mooted wagon variant following in 2017.
