Land Rover is reported to be planning to badge the variant as the Range Rover Sport R – a departure from the original choice of Range Rover Sport RS.
Despite the camouflage, the pre-production vehicle shown here exposes front air intake treatments, lowered suspension, Brembo brakes and a quad-exhaust system, hinting that this Rangie has the likes of the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG, Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 M in its sights.
Power will be delivered to the road courtesy of an eight speed ZF automatic in conjunction with the off-road specialist’s latest Terrain Response 2 all-wheel drive system. Naturally, the chassis and suspension set-up will be tweaked to handle the extra grunt.
The sticker price for the powerful behemoth will be well in excess of the $182,400 that is currently asked for the Supercharged variant of the Range Rover Sport and the R is expected to break cover at the upcoming Detroit motor show.
