SPY PICS: S-Class Cabrio doffs the camo
Mercedes-Benz needs it all for SL and SLK faceliftsThey're busy little beavers at Stuttgart. Practically the entire range of two-door sports/tourers (excluding AMGs) is being given a work-over by the three-pointed star.
The S-Class Cabrio has been seen before, but not as clearly as this time around. It's the very lack of camouflage that indicates this car is in the final stage of its development, which is as it should be, considering the Coupe on which it's based made its Aussie debut at Motorclassica late last year. The Cabrio is expected to make its global debut late this year – possibly as soon as Frankfurt.
And both the SLK and SL sports cars are in the throes of a facelift also – except the car we know as the SLK will be rebadged SLC, which is in keeping with Benz's new nomenclature. The facelift is anticipated to be extensive, with changes to bumpers, tail light clusters and frontal styling (apron, grille, headlights) to bring the small sports car into line with the corporate look of larger passenger cars.
Most of the SL's facelift will be concentrated at the front, but there will also be some less intensive cosmetic work carried out at the rear. It's expected to make its global debut in 2016, and possibly introduce an AMG Sport version for the first time.
