As Aston Martin DBS customers line up for first deliveries of the car that appeared in the 2006 remake of the James Bond film Casino Royale, the spy photographers at Carparazzi have snapped the soft-top Volante version undergoing deep chill testing in the north of Sweden.
The DBS coupe is Aston's flagship model and has yet to appear on the streets.
It forms the basis for the soft-top Volante convertible, complete with its 6.0-litre DBR9 racecar-derived V12 engine developing 380kW and 569Nm (at no less than 5750rpm). The makers say the British soft-top -- with a six-speed manual transmission -- will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in a little over four seconds.
The Volante closely replicates the lines of the steel-roofed coupe apart from a revised side window line and the regular-style boot lid below the rear window.
The DBS Volante, like the coupe version, uses a bonded chassis made up of magnesium alloy, carbon fibre and aluminium, and uses carbon fibre on many of the external body panels.
When launched on European and US markets, the DBS Volante is expected to bring a price tag of around 300,000 Euros -- or the equivalent of approximately A$500,000.
