SPY PICS: Upgraded Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 spied winter testing

Bahn-storming performance SUVs set to get new lights and upgraded tech as part of 2023 facelift

There’s an update coming for the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 range and thanks to our spy photographers we now know roughly what the enhanced performance SUV twins will look like when they arrive next year.

Expected to be launched in time for the 2024 model year, the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe and wagon will don updated bumpers and a fresh headlight design, although the latter is still shrouded in mystery thanks to the detail-blocking camouflage.

As for the front bumper design, to our eyes at least it looks pretty well identical to the current model’s, but there’s every chance Mercedes-Benz has retained the current unit on the test car in the name of secrecy.

It’s a different story at the rear, however, where we find a new silver insert along the top of the Coupe’s diffuser, spanning the complete width of the vehicle and encompassing the rhombus-shaped exhausts.

This piece of trim is missing from the wagon our photographers snapped undergoing dynamic testing, potentially pointing to either a different cosmetic pack or simply better differentiation between the four- and five-door GLE derivatives.

Both versions also have their tail-lights covered over.

Not much looks to have changed within the cabin, but it would be safe to expect updates to the infotainment system software and fresh graphics for the various displays and digital instrument cluster at the very least.

The large German SUV’s already extensive standard safety suite is also likely to be upgraded.

Going by previous AMG facelifts, we don’t expect any major changes to happen under the bonnet, where both the GLE wagon and coupe are likely to carry on with their monstrous 450kW/850Nm twin-turbo 4.0-litre petrol V8 in flagship S guise.

For the unfamiliar, the biturbo V8 is hooked up to a nine-speed automatic transmission and drives all four wheels, resulting in a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.8 seconds for both hot-shot GLE models.

Then again, it’s possible AMG is planning something special to keep pace with the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which will pack a mega 471kW/850Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and an incredible 3.3sec 0-100km/h claim.

Watch this space.
